Crocs, sharks and stingers

Cairns.....what an amazing 4 days!

Amber and I arrived in this humidity, somehow surprised that it rains so much in a place with a rainforest that is 130 million years old!

The time we spent here has been phenomenal, and surpassed any expectation I had. You can tell I'm having a fantastic time due to the lack of blog entries: there's no time!

Still, I am deeply disappointed that the pictures can't possibly do any justice to the beauty our eyes enjoyed, and the thrills our hearts experienced while here. I can't tape record our laughter, or Amber's serial attempts at an Australian accent. But here are a few pictures that will envitably never live up to our memories.

This is 4-mile beach in Port Douglas.....can't see a beach? Neither could we.....it's submerged!!!! That's how much rain they've been getting the last few days....

Here we are taking a walk along a gorge....our hair is crazy because of the humidity....

I convinced Amber to take a cruise down the Daintree River wihtout mentioning that we'd be surrounded by crocs.....here's a little one that we saw and were able to capture on film. He's 6 years old....

We had grilled barramundi for lunch with a fantastic salad. Barramundi is a popular dish here in Australia.

We went swimming in this little cove during our lunch break....afterwards, we noticed a sign, about 500m away, warning people to stay out of the water: crocodile danger. OOPS!

We spent a day in Cape Tribulation, one of the oldest rainforests in the world and a World Heritage Site. We saw this cassawary during our walk through the forest. It was so dark in there! I'm surprised the picture turned out at all.

Cooling down in the heat....we were sitting on a patio, along one of the main strips in Cairns.

Relaxing on the bow during the 2-hour boat ride to the Great Barrier Reef

While looking overboard in the boat, we spotted this little shark....little or not, I'm not getting in the water with this!

Likely one of the top ten moments of my life: snorkelling in the Great Barrier Reef. It's more beautiful than I ever imagined, and has made the entire trip worth it. At one point, Amber and I held hands and swam back to the boat, enjoying the reef underneath us (ok, maybe I was hanging on to her because I was scared of the sharks and stingers! but whatever! it was romantic!)

We found Nemo!
